How you will impact Ingevity


The Tour Foreman works a rotating shift for the Covington Carbon Plant which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Tour Foreman supervises the on-shift operation, maintenance, logistics and emergency response requirements of the plant. The Tour Foreman serves as the sole management representative for the plant for off hours, weekends, and holidays.


  • Supervise hourly personnel (Production, Maintenance, Shipping, Quality Testing) for a given shift in a fast paced union environment.
  • Ensure completion of planned maintenance work on off hours, as well as supervising off hour outages.
  • Serve as Safety Lead on shift supporting a zero incident/accident rate.
  • Ensure oversight and monitoring of air permit compliance, spill response, and waste water systems.
  • Ensure that Environmental systems are operating properly and meeting permit conditions.
  • Perform and document initial incident investigations and PSE events.
  • Support site wide security needs.
  • Coach and develop hourly personnel for a given shift.
  • Ensure execution of production plans for all manufacturing areas.
  • Coordinate and oversee plant shipping and receiving requirements. Knowledgeable of DOT and Quality requirements.
  • Call out additional resources to support the needs of the plant.
  • Use SAP Maintenance module for tracking and completing work orders and PM’s.
  • Issue and ensure correct use of safe work permits, contractor work authorization permits, etc.
  • Interact and effectively communicate with Covington paper mill during off hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Establish daily work expectations, monitor and execute plans, and effectively report on progress and issues.
  • Make decisions in an effective and timely manner; understand the scope of decision making authority.
  • Ability to become part of a high performing management team; supporting and executing business strategy and cultural goals.

What you need to succeed

  • Candidate must have aptitude for problem solving, effective decision making, and be effective at leading individuals and groups toward resolution of issues.
  • Ability to support systems to maintain TS 16949 and RC 14001 certifications.
  • 5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment, production supervision experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical processes, equipment, and manufacturing technologies including mechanical conveying, piping systems, pumps, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through electronic means, using current software platforms and mobile devices.
  • Knowledge of maintenance processes including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations and principles.
  •  Knowledge of emergency response and requirements for First Responders.
