    How you will impact Ingevity

    The Engineering/Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Specialist will have responsibilities in several key areas of our company working with Corporate Engineering and SHE Teams, and will have a great opportunity to contribute to the success of multiple projects and initiatives.  The role is responsible for driving key Engineering and SHE aspects of the capital project program forward for projects being planned and implemented across the company.  The Engineering/SHE Specialist is also responsible for administering a comprehensive SHE program designed to eliminate injuries and occupational illnesses, ensure environmental compliance, and to advance cultural change at our headquarter (HQ) locations.  These include the Ingevity Technical Center (ITC), Innovation Center (IC), and Ashley Center (AC), which include a number of laboratories, R&D facilities, and offices.  

    • Write multiple Approval For Expenditures (AFEs) for Corporate and Technical team’s capital projects, working with Corporate Project Leads, and provide engineering support on these projects as needed for design/construction management.
    • Complete SHE sections of AFEs for Corporate and Technical team’s projects, and ensure appropriate SHE measures are addressed in project plans and designs.
    • Work with Finance and Administrators to make sure Project Requests are set up properly for capital projects and spending is tracked correctly for capital portions of projects.
    • Lead monthly reviews of Asset Under Construction balances on Corporate and Technical team’s capital projects with Finance and resolve any issues.
    • Provide engineering support for continuous improvement and preventative maintenance projects at the ITC and IC.
    • Lead and assist with continuous improvement and updates of Corporate Engineering Policies and Procedures and HQ SHE Standards and Procedures.
    • Manage HQ SHE programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and SC regulations, Corporate and location specific SHE requirements, and RCMS.
    • Analyze HQ SHE performance to recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Serve as HQ’s SHE advisor and consultant on technical and regulatory issues.
    • Develop, deliver, and improve SHE training for laboratory, R&D, and office settings. 
    • Advance the safety culture, working with all levels of the organization.
    • Function as the HQ Chemical Hygiene Officer.    
    • Manage laboratory solid and hazardous waste and other waste and recycling activities.
    • Lead and participate in HQ incident investigations and complete recommendations.
    • Lead first party auditing program for HQ locations.  Lead interactions with regulatory agency representatives for HQ locations. Participate in audits of manufacturing locations.
    • Coordinate HQ emergency preparedness and response programs and evacuation drills.
    • Collaborate with other Engineers and SHE professionals within and outside the company.

     

    What you need to succeed

    • Bachelor’s degree in safety and health, science, engineering or related field.
    • CSP or CIH certification or desire to pursue certification is highly desired.
    • Being self-motivated, results oriented, and efficient at planning and organizing is essential.
    • A team focused, roll up your sleeves attitude is required for this role.
    • High comfort level with computer work including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and ability to quickly learn many other database management systems.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
    • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize multiple requests is critically important.
    • Travel requirement: 0-25%
