The Director, Corporate Accounting, reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer and Corporate Controller manages the all facets of domestic general accounting, global consolidation and global shared services which include accounts payable. The Director has responsibility for maintenance of Ingevity’s accounting books and records, including the general ledger. The Director also plays a key role in preparing the Ingevity’s periodic financial statements in accordance with US GAAP that are incorporated into the financial statements and other financial information utilized for internal financial reporting provided to management and the Board of Directors as well as the external reporting provided to investors and the SEC. The Director, Corporate Accounting will work alongside the Senior Manager of International Accounting and the Director of Plant Accounting to ensure combined operating results are appropriately accounted for in accordance with Ingevity Financial Standards and U.S. GAAP.

How you will impact Ingevity

  • Lead the monthly financial close process to ensure timely and accurate submission of consolidated financial statements.
  • Assist in budget preparation, monthly financial variance analysis, and ad hoc reporting.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements, internal controls, and automation in the month-end close processes, and successfully implement these improvements.
  • Assist the Director of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting in the development and submission of SEC reporting, including 10-K and 10-Q forms.
  • Direct our outsourced business partner shared services function including but not limited to record to report, invoice to cash and procure to pay. Coach and appraise job results of shared services staff and outsourced business partners in the pursuit of shared services objectives.
  • Act as a high-level liaison between shared services and business unit financial management in matters pertaining to the shared services function.
  • Develop annual performance objectives and reporting for shared services and outsourced business partners, implement plans to pursue the objectives and measure progress and results.
  • Lead and motivate the development of a highly skilled and cohesive service delivery team to provide cost-effective, centralized accounting services.
  • Maintain and oversee the global account reconciliation process via the use of Blackline.
  • Prepare the domestic monthly, quarterly, and/or annual government census and labor statistics forms required by various U.S. government agencies.
  • Maintain objective evidence for Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance and assist on developing corrective actions, when required.

What you need to succeed

Required Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting required
  • CPA required
  • MBA a plus



  • 10-15 years of experience
  • Public accounting experience is a plus
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a matrix organization
  • Knowledge of SAP required, specifically FI, CO and MM Modules
  • SAP - BPC experience also a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Mastery of U.S. GAAP financial statement
