How you will impact Ingevity

The Senior Safety and Occupational Health (S&OH) Specialist administers a comprehensive safety and health program designed to eliminate injuries and occupational illnesses and to advance cultural change around safety. Includes some limited environmental aspects. Functions as an advisor to management on technical and regulatory issues and acts as an advocate and consultant for the line organization. Serves as a change agent with experience building consensus with a diversified work force. Ensures multiple new hires receive thorough safety and health orientation.  Promotes safety focus during a time of rapid expansion and growth.  Eagerly collaborates with other safety and health professionals both within and outside of the company. This position supports the Crossett Plant, and also works with the Corporate Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Team.

  • Serve as an S&OH advocate, advisor and consultant to all employees and safety teams
  • Support process safety by leading or participating in PHAs, Management of Change process, Pre-Startup Safety and Operating Procedure reviews, etc.
  • Effectively market safety and health to communicate a clear, fresh message
  • Advance the safety culture, working with all levels of the organization
  • Coordinate emergency response activites for the site
  • Manage programs to ensure compliance with legal and other requirements, OSHA, EPA, and AR regulations and corporate SHE standards
  • Participate in implementation and maintenance of a Responsible Care Management System at the site to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all SHE programs and teams at the site are effective
  • Analyze safety and health performance for employees and contractors to recommend initiatives and safety and health related goals
  • Serve as site Respirator Program Administrator
  • Oversee site exposure monitoring program.
  • Function as the ergonomics champion, driving continuous improvement in ergonomics
  • Develop, deliver, and improve safety and health training
  • Lead efforts to develop new and maintain existing S&OH procedures.
  • Lead and participate in 1st and 2nd party S&OH audits. 
  • Lead or participate in injury, illness, and incident investigations, and completion of recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Manage injury, illness, and workers compensation cases and manage medical and wellness programs
  • Manage safety and health budget
  • Effectively manage a heavy workload, in a fast-paced environment 

What you need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety and health, science, engineering or related field
  • At least 5 years of comprehensive, hands-on safety and health experience in manufacturing and construction safety, ergonomics, safety culture change, and industrial hygiene in a production environment
  • Certifications such as CSP and CIH are highly desired for this role
  • Being self-motivated, results oriented, and efficient at planning and organizing is essential
  • A team focused, roll up your sleeves attitude is required for this role
  • High comfort level with computer work including Microsoft Word and Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Travel requirement: 0-10%

This position is contingent upon Ingevity closing the acquisition of Georgia Pacific’s Pine Chemicals business per the terms of the Asset Purchase Agreement, dated August 22, 2017.
